I have a pair of Brook's Hyperion Elite shoes. Took them on a 6 mile break-in run a few months ago. Saving these for racing as I am hoping to get 2 50 mile ultra's before they are worn out. They felt very fast at 6.9 ounces for size 8. These will be non-technical trail races. Pricey for sure at 250+ tax=270.00 You mentioned races- first one in NYS is July 18th. Three runners start every two minutes. I'm looking to race in September. With what may be only race for 2020 I better make it count! Training shoes- currently 2 pairs of Hoka One One Rincon which I switch daily. Then one day a week for tempo workout I'm using Saucony Type a-9.

I got a pair of next% and ran literally the most incredible marathon of my life (huge PR). I've also done a few time trials in them, and they've been great. I don't think they're the *best* shoes for me (they're so narrow I had to cut holes in the sides of them to fit my bunions hahaha), but I haven't had any issues with them. I didn't have any racing shoes before this, so I can't tell if the improvement is because they're the first racing shoe I've had in like, 15 years or if it's that they're genuinely helpful. I suspect a little bit of both. I usually do marathons, but have been time trialing shorter races, so I'm thinking about whether I should have a shoe that's more suited to the 5k rather than a long race (it seems weird to run in the next% for only 3 miles), but not sure what I'll end up doing.

Picked up a pair of 4% when they were on sale for $140. They feel very light, fast, and we'll cushioned. Have worn them only 3x so far, a short tempo and two 16 mile long runs with 2nd half at marathon pace. Actual marathon and the occasional marathon pace training run are the only time I plan to wear them. For shorter races up to half marathon, I still like RC1400, but I also just bought some Reebok RunFast Pro that I plan to use for tempos and 5k/10k.

I have not tried carbon plated shoes, but I should probably try new and different shoe options. I have been running in standard Asics or Brooks lately, but am trying to explore other options. I have also stayed away from using more than one pair of shoes or using a different pair for racing. However, using different shoes for different training days or races does not sound like a bad idea.

Like many commented below, I race or do time trails in the Nike Next %. And if I have a race prep dress rehearsal workout, I will wear them too.

I just started running in the Saucony Endorphin Pros and love them. Haven’t raced in them yet.

I tried on a pair of the Nike ones a couple of years ago but didn't pull the trigger on them. I've been wanting to try them but the stores in my area do not have them in my size in stock, and I would rather try them on and run around the store instead of buying online. Right now I'm in Hoka Rincons but they are wearing out so it's time to start looking. I have the NB Rebels and really liked them at first, but I think running on pitched roads in them is causing some of my calf issues.

This is a useful discussion. I have a pair of HOKA Carbon X and a pair of Altra Duo 1.5. I treated them both as "race only" shoes for their first 100 miles or so. I definitely noticed the difference vs. my other non-carbon road shoes! Since then (they're both at around 150-160) I treat them as my faster training shoes. Whenever racing starts up again, I'll probably get two new pair of something carbon plated. I like to have two or three pair in rotation, especially when I'm racing three out of four weekends.

My current race shoe is the Nike Zoom Fly SP. Got a couple pair at a Nike Clearance store...

I ran in the 4%s and really enjoyed them but won’t buy Nike anymore. I purchased the Hoka Carbon X as a replacement but potentially got the wrong size and found they just didn’t work for me after my PT checked my form (need to sell them or give them away!) I’m going to try Saucony next, but I’m also interested in the Adidas that were recently launched.

I “race” in Nike %Next. I reserve them for speed work or the virtual races that my husband, friends, & I have been running.

I haven’t tried any of the others yet and I know the love of %Next is kind of mixed but I’ve loved them.
