LOLZLetter 149 | A List of Things I've Actually Bought People This Holiday Season
Welcome,
This week's newsletter is shorter since I'm sure you are getting hammered with emails. Every holiday season, I find it easy to unsubscribe from more emails, so I am grateful for everyone who stays subscribed to this newsletter.
Each holiday season, people want a good gift guide. There are millions out. In the days of social media, many holiday guides are just affiliate links the writer (or company) gets paid if you buy them. Half of the time, it's the same five products on 30 websites. It's fine, but I don't usually find them particularly useful. I also don't find it useful when half of the links are for products over $300.
There is always someone who "doesn't know what they want" Lucky for me every year, that's my husband. Unlucky for me, his birthday is just a few days before, and I have to scramble for that too. When asked what he wanted, this year he said: "I could use some more Tupperware for my lunch"
So that's where I'm at with holiday shopping. Anyway, we all have someone hard to shop for. Or we need to show up last minute with *something*. My spouse and I have gone more into experience gift-giving. One year, he gave me tickets to the Flyers to see Gritty (because I could not care less about Hockey).
We prefer just doing things versus buying a lot of material stuff. That could also be because we are tired of military movers breaking half of our items. I digress.
None of this is sponsored, but these are a few gifts I have actually purchased this holiday season.
What Have I Purchased This Holiday Season?
Gift Card to a Local Running Store: Most people just want gift cards anyway. But what about wrapping them? It's true gift cards aren't something you can "open," But if you put them in a box and wrap the box, you have a gift card under the tree. On another note, why do we spend so much on wrapping paper? It's 100% unnecessary.
Gas Gift Card: I still wish I lived near a Royal Farms or Wawa, but most people could use a gas gift card.
A Phone Charger: My staple gift for white elephant parties is a phone charger. It is useful and easy. It hasn't failed me yet. I prefer Ankor because they charge quickly.
A box of Hot Hands: If you live anywhere that gets cold, you know how useful Hot Hands can be. They go inside your gloves or shoes to keep you warm. I think they are one of the most underrated gifts you can give someone who lives in a cold climate.
Tifosi Sunglasses: I'm a big fan of Tifosi. They make sunglasses that are as cheap as $25. They've made sunglasses for years, and the quality is a lot better than competitors (don't break as easily, lenses don't scratch). The Swank Rainbow Shine is my favorite, and I bought a couple of pairs as gifts.
C is for Chafing Book: Mark Remy, "The Dumb Runner," is hilarious. If you know someone with a sense of humor, they'll love it.
Run Tri Magazine Subscription: Run Tri Magazine is a 6X a year print magazine. Unlike other well-known running magazines, it's not cover to cover ads or weight loss articles.
Uncommon Goods: Finally, if you are looking for something weird or unique, Uncommon Goods is another staple website of mine. You can find something useful for anyone or anything. From marathon pint glasses to emergency dad jokes mugs.
Anyway, happy holidays. Hopefully, you aren't too stressed this time of year.
