LOLZLetter 73 | Events to Celebrate Global Running Day
Plus an Aftershokz Aeropex Headphone Giveaway
Welcome
This week's newsletter is shorter and talks about the first Wednesday in June. With both the worldly and United States events, I have a hard time writing about running right now.
As I said on Instagram:
I’ve struggled with what to post. Not posting is not an option because even if you’re antiracist, sitting in silence allows racism to grow around you.
Silence supports racism and it’s up to you to learn how your life can knowingly or unknowingly support racism. Then up to you to take action.
Social media makes it easy to scroll and think “this doesn’t pertain to me...I am not racist”. It is not enough to think that. We most show and voice that.
It’s uncomfortable to think about, it’s uncomfortable to say. I’m constantly wondering what should I say? Did I say the wrong thing? What can I do?
Educate yourself and learn.
Listen.
Use your voice. Your voice is powerful.
Talk to loved ones, family members, friends, anyone...be vocal.
Donate. (GQ wrote a helpful article).
Do something because while you might be antiracist, sitting in silence helps racism grow. #sayhisname#georgefloyd
A lot of powerful articles came out this week and I've linked to some at the bottom. It's crucial to acknowledge white privilege and what is happening in the country. I wouldn't be able to push publish on the newsletter if I didn't.
What is the first Wednesday in June, you might ask?
It's Global Running Day!
Celebrating Global Running Day looks different this year, but that doesn't mean you can't celebrate in new ways. Many brands and races have virtual events to still bring a sense of community.
If You've never heard or participated: What is Global Running Day?
Easy: A day dedicated to running!
But for many runners, that is every day...
Global Running Day is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone to get moving. It reminds us of the positives running offers and how the sport creates a community.
Now, it's more important than ever that people stay healthy and active. Since most in-person events are canceled, it's vital to stay active and safe in a responsible way. We all run for different reasons. Many people turn to running as their solution to keep up their wellbeing, cope with staying home, or even let go of anxiety.
Each year, Global Running Day has a theme. This year's theme is: Run 1 Tag 1 social media challenge! Run 1 mile for someone that inspires them (or complete an at-home exercise) and tag a friend to do the same. Tag #Run1Tag1 and #GlobalRunningDay to celebrate and run across the globe together in a worldwide game of virtual tag.
Virtual Events:
NYRR Virtual Global Running Day 1M (Free)
Brooks Running Global Running Day 5k (Free)
F2R Global Running Day 5k ($25 includes medal and t-shirt)

Giveaway:
In honor of Global Running Day, I'll be giving away a pair of Aftershokz Aeropex Headphones. I use Aftershokz headphones for all of my runs with music or podcasts. I've reviewed them here.
A few things I like about Aftershokz. They are Bluetooth and have no wires, they go over your ear so you can hear your surroundings (but the sound quality is good), and they have 6-8 hours of battery life.
To enter:
Share the newsletter to your platform of choice+share someone who inspires you in the running world (for the theme #run1tag1).
Make sure to tag me (Twitter, Instagram, or Facebook) , so I know you've entered. If you choose to forward an email, just CC me at fueledbylolz@gmail.com.
